The Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim Region has released a notification inviting applications from meritorious sportspersons for recruitment to the posts of Tax Assistant (TA) and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS). This recruitment is being conducted under the Sports Quota as per DoPT guidelines and covers 17 different games and sports disciplines. Sports Eligibility Criteria

A candidate is eligible to apply under this recruitment if they fall under any of the following categories:

  • Category A: Represented a State or the Country in National/International competitions, or won a medal in Junior National Championships, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games, Khelo India Para Games, Khelo India University Games, or School Games Federation of India (SGFI) events.
  • Category B: Represented their University in Inter-University Tournaments conducted by the Inter-University Sports Board.
  • Category C: Represented their State School Team in National School Games conducted by the All India School Games Federation.

For Chess, eligibility also includes Grand Master (GM) title, International Master (IM) title, Chess Olympiad participation, and medal-winning performance in the National Team Chess Championship.


Income Tax Sports Quota Bharti 2026 | Selection Process

The selection of candidates will be carried out through the following stages, in order of preference:

  1. Candidates who represented India in International Competitions (with clearance from the Department of Sports) get the first preference.
  2. Candidates who represented a State/UT in Senior or Junior National Championships and won medals/positions up to 3rd place.
  3. Candidates who represented a University in Inter-University Competitions or Khelo India University Games with medals/positions up to 3rd place.
  4. Candidates who represented a State/UT in Khelo India Youth/Winter/Para Games with medals/positions up to 3rd place.
  5. Candidates who represented State Schools in National School Games with medals/positions up to 3rd place.
  6. Candidates who participated at the above levels but could not win a medal or position.

Further Stages

  • Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must appear before the Selection Committee with original documents.
  • Ground/Field Proficiency Test: To evaluate the candidate’s proficiency in their respective sport/game.
  • Data Entry Skill Test (For TA post only): Candidates shortlisted for Tax Assistant must qualify a Data Entry Skill Test at 8000 key depressions per hour.
  • Final Merit List: Prepared based on best sports performance (01.01.2022 to 30.06.2026) combined with marks obtained in the Ground/Field Proficiency Test.

Note: Candidates must be clear of all Doping Tests conducted by WADA/NADA and must not have been disqualified or banned by any sports federation.
