The Uttar Pradesh Shiksha Seva Chayan Ayog (UPESSC), Prayagraj has released Advertisement No. 04/2026 for UP Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 to fill up 1936 vacancies in government-aided co-education and women’s degree colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online through the official website www.upessc.up.gov.in from 08 September 2026. The last date to pay the online application fee is 07 October 2026, and candidates will be able to make corrections in their submitted form till 11 October 2026. The written examination for this recruitment is scheduled to be held on 19 and 20 November 2026. Candidates who fulfil the required educational qualification of a Master’s degree with 55% marks along with NET/SLET/SET or a Ph.D. can apply for this recruitment before the last date.

Points to Remember Regarding Dates

• Candidates must complete One Time Registration (OTR) before filling the actual application form, since the application process cannot begin without it.

How to Pay the Fee The examination fee can be paid online through Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking available on the application portal. Payment will be considered valid only after confirmation is received from the bank, so candidates should keep the fee payment receipt safely for future reference. Please note that once the fee is deposited, it will not be refunded or adjusted against any other application under any circumstances.

• Age Reckoning Date: 01 July 2026
• Maximum Age Limit: 62 years

If a candidate is more than 62 years of age as on 01 July 2026, or does not mention the date of birth in the application form, the application will not be accepted. Only the date of birth mentioned in the High School or equivalent certificate will be considered valid; no other document will be accepted as proof of age. Age relaxation for reserved category candidates will be applicable as per the rules of the Uttar Pradesh Government.

A total of 1936 posts have been notified, out of which 1564 posts are for co-education (male/female) government-aided degree colleges and 372 posts are for women’s degree colleges.

Horizontal Reservation Along with the above vertical reservation, horizontal reservation is also applicable for Women (138 posts in co-education colleges), PwD/Divyangjan (61 posts), and dependents of Freedom Fighters (24 posts) as per the government rules in force.

Subject-Wise Vacancy The vacancies are notified subject-wise for subjects such as Hindi, English, Economics, Sociology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Commerce, Botany, History, Painting, Philosophy, Zoology, Psychology, Political Science, Education, Music (Vocal/Instrumental/Tabla), Sanskrit, Home Science, Geography, Physical Education, Military Science, Agricultural Economics, Law, Statistics, Geology, and several other agriculture-related subjects. Educational Qualification

• A Master’s Degree from a recognized Indian University in the relevant/allied subject with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade where a grading system is followed), or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• Along with the above qualification, the candidate must have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR, or an equivalent state-level test such as SLET/SET.
• Candidates holding a Ph.D. degree awarded as per UGC Regulations 2009 or 2016 (as applicable) are exempted from qualifying NET/SLET/SET, subject to fulfilment of the conditions prescribed in the notification.
• For subjects like Painting, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental (Sitar), and Tabla, candidates with an outstanding professional/traditional performing background along with a graduate degree are also eligible, subject to specified conditions mentioned in the detailed notification.

UP Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 | Selection Process 

The selection for the post of Assistant Professor will be made on the basis of a merit list prepared out of a total of 360 marks, distributed as follows:

• Written Examination: 320 Marks (120 Objective Type Questions)
• Interview: 40 Marks

In case of a tie in the total marks of two or more candidates, preference will first be given based on marks obtained in the written exam, followed by interview marks, then the percentage of the mandatory educational qualification/Ph.D./JRF/NET, and finally the older candidate (by age) will be placed higher in the merit list.

UP Assistant Professor Salary / Pay Scale 2026

Selected candidates for the post of Assistant Professor will be placed in Pay Level-10, with a pay scale ranging from Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month, along with other allowances as admissible under the rules of the Uttar Pradesh Government.

Important Exam Instructions

• Candidates must carry only a black ball point pen to the examination hall for darkening the circles on the OMR sheet; the use of any other pen or whitener is strictly prohibited.
• Once a circle is darkened on the OMR sheet, no correction will be allowed, and darkening more than one circle for a single question will result in zero marks for that question.
• Scribe facility will be available for PwD candidates as per government orders, and such candidates will get 20 minutes of extra time per hour, subject to prior registration at the commission office at least one week before the exam.
