The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2027 (Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL) on 2nd September 2026. UPSC Combined Geo Scientist Exam 2027 | Selection Process
The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 is conducted in three successive stages:
- Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) – Screening test for the Main Examination.
- Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional/Descriptive Type) – For shortlisting candidates for the Personality Test.
- Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview – Final stage before preparation of the merit list.
Final merit is prepared based on the combined marks scored in the Preliminary Examination + Main Examination + Personality Test.

Negative Marking: One-third of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer in the Objective Type papers. No penalty for unattempted questions.

A2. A total of 127 tentative vacancies have been announced across Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist and Assistant-level posts in GSI and CGWB.
A3. Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as on 1 January 2027, i.e., born between 2 January 1995 and 1 January 2006, with age relaxation applicable as per category.
A4. The application fee is Rs. 200/-. Female candidates, SC/ST candidates, and Persons with Benchmark Disability are exempted from paying the fee.
A5. The Preliminary Examination will be held on 10 January 2027, and the Main Examination will be held on 19 & 20 June 2027.
